Skateboarding is one of the best hobbies to pick up. I remember practicing outside my garage as a teenager for hours just trying to do an ollie. Now that I am older I still like to get on an old skateboard every now and then. Today we’re going to talk about electric skateboards which are a little different animal but still way cool.
In recent years, electric skateboards have taken the industry by storm and are promising to revolutionize the way we ride. While there will always be a place and time for foot-propelled skateboards, it is undeniable that the best electric skateboards on the market offers some useful benefits. Below, we take a quick look at some of the benefits that come with electric boards and then offer a short buying guide to help you find the best electric skateboard for your personal use. There are stories of eboards exploding so check that your board is certified before buying.
The most obvious benefit of having an electric skateboard, also known as an e-board, is that you will not have to push it with your foot to speed up. This is a big plus for people who live in hilly areas and who often end up having to carry their board up those long, seemingly endless hills.

Secondly, e-boards will also give you more control over your cruising speed. Some electric skateboards on the market come with the tech that will alert you when you reach a certain speed. This can help you better plan out your travel time, instead of flying down hills and then considerably slowing down on flat areas or uphill treks.
Lastly, a quality e-board will probably allow you to skate farther, and might even allow you to forego the bus or car as your primary means of commuting. Regular skateboarding takes a LOT of energy, and with an e-board you can enjoy the freedom of being on your ride while avoiding showing up to class or work soaked in sweat.
These Electric Scooters are also way cool but sometimes I feel like the skateboard vs scooter battle makes it hard to see the benefits of both.
While you might be able to find a cheap e-board for under $100, it probably will not last you very long or offer a very pleasant riding experience. Below is a quick checklist of the top features you should look for in the best electric skateboards.
Generic Wheels: Avoid the clone wheels as these can chip or break, and will most likely need to be replaced more quickly.
Quality of the Battery Cells: Obviously, you want an electric skateboard that offers a good combination of speed and range. To get that, you will want an e-board that comes with high quality battery cells. Make sure the company you purchase from discloses who makes the batteries they use in their boards.
Wireless Remote Control Connectivity: The remote control connectivity associated with e-boards is an important feature that will help you best control your electric skateboard. The wireless remote control should contain, at a minimum, the power switch, speed up and brake button, a direction switch, a battery indicator (to let you know how much farther you can go), and a charging port. Make sure to read user reviews to avoid purchasing a board that regularly has connectivity issues.
Board Weight: While a fast board with a good range might seem like a great combination, an electric skateboard that weighs 30 pounds or more will probably be a burden, especially if you have to pack it up and carry it once you arrive to your destination. Make sure you find a board that is portable enough that you can carry it comfortably. Also, prioritize boards that have a max weight limit that they can transport you and whatever you plan to carry with you.
